Mom 4/26/1934 - 4/27/2014

Mom died one year ago today. I miss her and her emphatic opinions and vast knowledge about interesting things like movies, the Kennedys, NYC, and politics.

In memorial, a random sampling of things I have to admit she may or may not have been right about:
  • sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen. Also, a hat.
  • "If nobody wants it, it's not a bargain"
  • Legionnaire's disease is probably caused by ice
  • rub a garlic clove in the wooden salad bowl before you make the salad [good advice coming from someone who barely cooked]
  • there are only 3 safe places to eat a hamburger: PJ Clarke's, JG Melon, and the 21 Club
  • "I don't need to go on an actual roller coaster; I can ride a roller coaster in my mind."
  • Edward G. Robinson was the greatest actor whoever lived [maybe some bias there; he was a Romanian Jew, like my dad]
  • John Huston killed Clark Gable [filming The Misfits]
  • be careful with your personal information because people want to steal your identity
  • Bobby Darin was just a punk.
  • You could twist your ankle wearing clogs. [She was close; the skinned knee I got tripping over my clogs still hasn't healed after 2 weeks.]
  • Andy Warhol was a greater genius than Picasso
  • Just try one bite! If you don't like it, you don't have to finish it!
